Marriage in Islam: A Shield for Faith and Character
"O young people! Whoever among you has the ability to marry should get married. Marriage helps a person lower the gaze and protects chastity."

Marriage is one of the greatest blessings of Islam. It is not only a relationship between a man and a woman but also a means of protecting faith, character, and morality. Islam encourages young people who are physically, emotionally, and financially capable of marriage to take this important step without unnecessary delay.
One of the greatest benefits of Nikah is that it helps a person lower the gaze. In today's world, where temptations are everywhere, guarding one's eyes has become increasingly difficult. Marriage provides a lawful and dignified way to fulfil natural desires, making it easier to avoid looking at what is forbidden.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) also explained that marriage protects chastity. A married person is less likely to fall into immoral relationships or sinful acts because marriage offers a pure and lawful way to satisfy natural human needs. In this way, Nikah acts as a strong safeguard against indecency and immoral behaviour.
Marriage also brings peace, responsibility, and emotional support. Husband and wife become companions who help each other in worship, patience, and building a righteous family. A home established on faith and mutual respect becomes a source of comfort for both spouses and a healthy environment for raising children.
For this reason, Islam does not view marriage merely as a social custom. It is an act that protects individuals, strengthens families, and contributes to a morally healthy society.
Every young Muslim who is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of marriage should appreciate its importance and strive to establish a family based on faith, modesty, and good character.
